Ancient Buddha Statues Found Buried in Takeo Province

TAKEO: Residents of Prey Top village in Takeo Province found two Buddha statues buried in the ground. The villagers sent the statues to the National Museum of Phnom Penh as a tangible cultural heritage of the nation.

According to the Takeo Department of Culture and Fine Arts, the two Buddha statues are made of sandstone in the Phnom Da style and date to the 6th or 7th century . One of the statues is a meditating Buddha that measures .8 meters tall. The other statue is of a Buddha that stands 1.5 meters tall along with a .67 meter pedestal.

On January 4,the two Buddha statues were brought to the National Museum of Phnom Penh. The Provincial Department of Culture commends the people and local authorities for their cooperation in preserving and handing over artifacts in the interest of national cultural heritage.
